An awards ceremony to pay tribute to the countless volunteers across the country was held last week.

On Thursday June 6, Volunteer Centre Midlothian held their annual Volunteers’ Week Awards Ceremony at Newbattle Abbey College.

Over 100 people attended the event which organisers hailed as “a great success”.

A spokesperson added: “We received a high number of nominations this year so our sponsors had a very difficult task choosing the winners.”

The evening began with opening remarks by Anne Moodie, Director of the Volunteer Centre and a welcome to Newbattle Abbey College by the Principal, Ann Southwood. Kenneth Lawrie, Chief Executive of Midlothian Council then said a few words before the presentation of awards began.

After which, closing remarks were made by Provost Joe Wallace. There was then an opportunity for all award winners and sponsors to have their photographs taken and a light buffet was served.
