A NEW project has been launched to put a spring in pupils’ steps.
The scheme, Walk and Win, aims to encourage children to keep a record of their walking or cycling to school.
Each pupil will receive a record card, which is signed by a parent, carer or school staff member every time they walk or cycle to or from school.
Once they have collected 50 signatures, they hand their card into the school office where they can redeem it for their reward vouchers. They will receive two vouchers.
The first entitles the pupil to a free child swim session at any Midlothian swimming pool and the second is for a half-price junior open ski or snowboard session at Midlothian Snowsports Centre.
Pupils, who may live too far to walk or cycle to school, can still be involved in the scheme. If they are dropped off safely and then walk or cycle for a minimum of five minutes, they can still record their efforts.
The scheme will run until the end of the summer term.
