TWO youths have been charged following a spate of wheelie bin fires in Mayfield.
The boys, aged 13 and 15, were charged in connection with one incident in which a wheelie bin was allegedly set on fire, and are also assisting police with enquiries into other incidents.
Police and the fire service had been alerted by nine wheelie bin fires in the Mayfield area over a two-week period.
Wheelie bins in Willow Road (three), Poplar Street (two), Oak Place, The Cullens, Bogwood Court and Darcy Road have been targeted.
The bins were taken from gardens and set on fire, posing a danger to homes and potentially spreading harmful fumes.
Local residents are being warned to secure their bins and recycling boxes.
