I think Paul Taylor should perhaps do a bit more research before accusing people of not doing their jobs properly! Over the last few years, the museum’s marketing budgets have been cut a little more every year leaving very little to work with. We have had to be creative and find innovative ways to promote the museum at little or no cost. Despite lack of funds, this year has been a record year for us as far as visitor numbers are concerned and we have managed to retain our VisitScotland 5 Star status as well as winning the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions ‘Best Visitor Experience’ award twice in the last five years. Doesn’t that tell you something about the hard work and dedication of the staff?
The increased funding is great news and will go a long way to help secure the future of the A-listed colliery buildings which are in our care and preserve them for future generations. And who knows? Maybe one day there will be enough for a national radio advertising campaign or even a TV campaign so we can really shout about how wonderful this place is! But for now, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing and will strive to do our best with what we have! Word of mouth goes a long way!
