Planning - Disgusted at decision
On behalf of Gorebridge Community Council, I would like to thank your reporter, Kevin Quinn, and the Advertiser, for your coverage of the disgraceful decision, by members of the Local Review Board, to overturn the rejected planning application for housing at the site of the former Arniston Gas works.
We discussed this issue at our meeting on 20/10/2015 and all members were disgusted at the decision of the LRB. This decision is rendering the planning consultation process a “waste of time and money”, by ignoring the agreed Local Plan and the guidance of its own planning officers. It is also a waste of taxpayers money and the time and commitment of the many hundreds of volunteers across Midlothian who spend days, weeks and months reviewing Midlothian Council and SESplan proposals, submitting consultation reports on behalf of their communities and engaging in ongoing dialogue with council officers to achieve the best outcome. As there were a number of issues with this site in the recent past, such as “felling trees without permission”, Gorebridge Community Council would like to know the “exceptional circumstances” that made the LRB ignore their planning officials and come to their decision.
We would call upon the Administration to conduct an enquiry into this incident and to publish guidelines to ensure there will be no repetitions of this scandalous decision.
Chairman, Gorebridge Community Council
