Pensions

Wrong priorities and out of touch

Sir, – So, Baroness Altmann, the former Pensions Minister, thinks that the “triple lock increase” for pensioners should be scrapped as after 2020 it will be expensive and unaffordable.

What appears to be affordable are MPs’ above-inflation salary increases; doubling of direct foreign aid to 0.7 per cent to £12bn per annum; the budget deficit; and the Baroness’s £300 per day fee plus expenses, plus subsidised restaurant\bars for her and her fellow circa 800 peers, which after all, are merely jobs for the mates of politicians, rather than “normal” people doing an effective and constructive job.

In my opinion the lady has her priorities totally wrong and should get into the real world. – Yours, etc.,

R. Hunter
