Police in Midlothian have arrested and charged a 14-year-old boy in connection with wilful fireraising, following a fire at Langside Farm, Dalkeith.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 and resulted in a major response from Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

SFRS mobilised crews from Dalkeith, Musselburgh, Marionville, Liberton, Tranent, McDonald Road and Crewe Toll fire stations to the incident.

It was further complicated by the presence of gas canisters and livestock on the property.

Crews worked with the farmer to move the animals to a safe area and secure adequate water supplies to attack the fire.

Since March 2014, Police Scotland has worked continuously to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

By gathering information from the local community, officers have been able to bring charges.

The 14-year-old has been reported to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) and the Procurator Fiscal.
