A fun family-friendly Halloween event is set to take place at Mayfield Park, with the local community encouraged to go hunting for zombies!

Organised by Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust (MAEDT), a zombie hunt is one of two free spooky treats on offer to local people on October 31. With the other being a kids’ Halloween event.

Mark Thistlewood from the Trust explained why it decided to offer the free activities, which will see the undead take over the park.

He said: “It’s the first time we have tried something like this. We usually have an event for most other occasions in the year like Christmas. But I have never seen much for Halloween. So we thought we would do this.We are covering all ages with the two events really. The zombie event has to be for over 12s only though, as it’s dark, and safety was key.

“It’s all free. We had extra funding leftover from one of our funders and they said we could use it for this.

“We generate income from hiring out our mini bus and marquee too. So we reinvest it into activities for the community like this. It will cost roughly about £1,000.

“I’m amazed with what we have got planned so far. ”

Mark revealed more about the zombie hunt: “The public can be zombies or hunters.

“Obviously we are telling them their might be some running involved.

“We are planning to have two or three hunts. To give people the chance to play both. It’s kind of a non-contact game of tig. You have to grab the glowstick off the zombies.

“If anyone wants their face made-up to be a zombie, they need to make sure they are early enough to get the make-up etc done.

“I’m hoping we can get a big crowd for this. There has been quite a lot of interest on Facebook. Fingers crossed we can get people involved.”
