Arcari wins Penicuik 10k

There were dark clouds and the sound of distant thunder in the air at the start of this year's Penicuik 10k Road Race.
The runners reaching the finish in under 45 minutes on Saturday afternoon had a clear run, however, when the heavens opened for more than 30 minutes at 3pm both runners, marshals and finish officials got not only soaked but pelted with hail stones. H
ence an unwelcome early shower greeted everyone.

The race was won by Paul Arcari from Kilbarchan AC, in 32m 25s well ahead of Dave Simpson (Carneigie Harriers) in 33m 06s. Keith Hood (Corstorphine AC) led his team home in third spot and with it the team prize.

The first woman to finish was Sarah Donelly in 40m 40s, from Emily Hargreaves from Lytham St Annes, in 42m 59s and Emma Davis of Footworks, in 44m 37s.

Dunbar Running Club continued its winning streak for the veteran awards with Stuart Hay (7th) 37m 31s picking up the V40 prize; George Gilhooley (9th) 38.21 won the V45 prize and Anne Hay was the first VF45 to finish in 47m 31s.

Other local club finishers included John Anderson V40, (Penicuik Harriers), 10th, 38m 32s, Duncan Ball V40 (Penicuik H), 13th, 38m 48s; Alan Proudfoot (HELP) V40, 17th, 40m 11s; Tom Harley V50 (HELP) 42m 35s; Derrek Buglass (DRC), 107th, 49m 30s; Val Herring (DRC), 140th, 54m 07s; Sheila Morrison, 143rd, 55m 14s; Chris Wood (Penicuik H), 149th, 55m 52s; Neil White (MADAC), 150th, 56m 33s; Audrey Grigg (MADAC), 154th, 55m 52s.
