Loanhead swimmer Sean Fraser in Paralympic medal hope

LOANHEAD swimmer Sean Fraser is putting any thoughts of Paralympic medal success to the back of his mind as he prepares for the Beijing Games.
The teenager faces stiff competition in the pool but is a British record holder in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
Ranked third in the world in the backstroke, Sean, who lives in Mayfield Crescent, knows he faces a strong challenge from competitors from Australia, Russia and China.
"I was extremely excited this morning as all my kit arrived," said Sean (18), a former Lasswade High School pupil.
"It started to dawn on me but I am taking one day at a time and taking it easy. If I start to look too far ahead of myself I start to worry and get nervous.
Training eight sessions a week — spending up to two hours in the pool at a time — Sean, who has cerebral palsy, will be competing in the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle in category S8. The competition is graded with S1 for severely disabled swimmers.
