After a 16-year "drought", Penicuik made it two in a row when they retained the Presidents' Cup at their annual Sevens tournament — sponsored this year by Remax Property Partners.
After a sluggish start in their opening tie against Moray House when the scores were tied 5-5 at the break, Penicuik took control to win 33-5 before beating Hawick Linden 15-7 in the quarter finals to set up a semi final try with old rivals North Ber
wick.
The semi final was a nail-biting affair with North Berwick quickly taking a 10-point lead before Penicuik ran in three tries — Cunningham crucially converting two of them — to give Penicuik enough of an edge to withstand the final burst from North Berwick which saw them close the gap to two points before the final whistle.
The final of the tournament itself proved something of anti-climax with Ross High, who had already accounted for Boroughmuir, Trinity, and Edinburgh Northern, never in the hunt and finally going down 46-0.
PerformanceThree of Penicuik's tries came from Andy Greer — playing his last game for Penicuik before returning to New Zealand — a performance that earned him the Player of the Final award.
