Bonnyrigg Rose almost pulled off a shock upset away to Brechin City in the third round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

On 58 minutes Max Christie’s men were cruising at two goals up before costly errors let their Second Division opponents back into the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Despite a formidable home record under Christie, Bonnyrigg remain underdogs going into Saturday’s replay at New Dundas Park.

Speaking to the Advertiser this week, the manager said: “We would have taken that result before the game but at two goals up we were looking comfortable and were containing them, so it’s disappointing not to have won.

“In the first half we were the better side - we scored early and were looking a threat going forward. They never got in behind us and their goals were mistakes on our part.”

Ahead of Saturday’s 1.30pm kick-off, there are high hopes that Bonnyrigg, Junior football’s East Superleague champions, can progress.
