Several new faces have appeared at Lasswade Rugby Club, which is midway through a pre-season fitness and conditioning programme ahead of the challenges that Premier rugby promises.

Jamie Blackwood from Watsonians is a very experienced player who has played at the highest level in Scottish amateur rugby, as well as having a spell as a professional with Rotherham Titans. He has also played for Scotland as a sevens player.

Friendly fixtures have been arranged against Stewarts Melville and Biggar. The first league game in the club’s Premier 3 calendar is a home tie against Perthshire on Saturday, August 27.

Following promotion last season, Lasswade 2nds now find themselves competing in a very competitive Reserve East 1 League which features the second strings of Gala, Jedforest and Kelso. Lasswade 3rds have also entered a team in the lower reserve leagues which includes mouth-watering local derbies against Dalkeith and Preston Lodge.
