Nearly half of Scotland’s Taekwondo World Championship squad were from Dalkeith, bringing back two medals to the county.

The World Taekwondo Championships were held in London’s Olympic village from August 2-5, with four Dalkeith students of the discipline making up the nine representing Scotland.

Stuart Blaikie (19), Amber Curran (16), Scott Johnstone-Jones (36) and Shereen Mirza (18) went with their coach Catherine Divine (43).

Catherine was proud of the whole team but in particular Scott and Stuart, who struck gold in the adult male team event, and Amber, who won a silver in the Junior Sparring contest.

She said: “I’m so proud of them all.

“When we go to an event involving over 30 countries and over 1000 competitors, then it is a fantastic achievement to win medals.”
