Eskvale Hockey Club’s promising start to the season continued on Sunday when the Midlothian team shared the honours at Dunfermline HC’s pre-season tournament.
The visitors enjoyed victory over two Dunfermline teams before facing Livingston & West Lothian in the competition decider. Eskvale’s opponents in the round robin contest were also unbeaten.
Both teams played strong hockey with quick passing and good use was made of the whole pitch. Eskvale’s supporting play soon found them 2-0 to the good, but Livingston soon fought back to equalise.
They nipped into the lead but, in the second half, Eskvale broke through their defence and equalised.
With everything all square at full time, the competition went to a penalty shoot-out but both keepers showed their mettle to ensure no goals were scored.
In the end it was decided by both teams to share the trophy. Eskvale I will start the season in East Division 1 on Saturday at home against Watsonians III.
