The development of youth hockey in Midlothian is receiving extra attention this winter.

Weekly coaching is on offer to children in P5 upwards at the Dalkeith Community Campus on Thursdays from 5pm to 6.30pm until the end of March.

Coaching the sessions is Jane Carmichael, from Eskvale Ladies Hockey Club, along with Scotland youth players Aedan McCrossan and Paul Taylor, and Kerri Allan, who also plays for Eskvale Ladies. The three teenagers all hold their Level 1 UKCC qualification.

In addition, East District U-16 keeper Greg MacKenzie is assisting with goalkeeping coaching with Robin Taylor, who plays in goals at senior men’s level.

Last week, GB Beijing Olympian Stevie Dick made a guest appearance to coach the youngsters and it is hoped that GB Athens Olympian Graham Moodie will make an appearance at the Midlothian squad at a later date.
