A MAYFIELD teenager and his passion for football were recalled at a special challenge match last week.
Teams representing McSence Training Centre and Midlothian Training Services clashed at Easthouses Playing Fields on Wednesday in tribute to Dale “Benji” Bennett, who died earlier this year.
The 17-year-old, a keen footballer and Hearts fan, completed a six-month training programme with McSence Training Centre, before joining the social enterprise’s Employee Co-operative.
The tribute match was organised by Roddy Davidson, Dale’s training manager.
McSence won the match on penalties after it ended in a 1-1 draw at 90 minutes.
Fittingly, it was Dale’s good friend, James Tannerhill, who saved the decisive spot kick.
McSence captain Kyle Hill was presented with a trophy which was donated by the Bennett family.
The event was a great success, with £33 being raised in a raffle, and the football challenge is likely to become an annual fixture.
