The finals of the inaugural Dale Bennett Memorial Trophy took place on Saturday, in memory of the tragic teenager who was killed in a knife attack four years ago.
Run over three Saturdays, the four age group finals took place at Easthouses Park last weekend as part of this year’s Mayfield and Easthouses Gala Day.
Dale’s dad Garry Bennett was proud that this football tournament was held in memory of Hearts-mad Dale.
He said: “As Dale’s parents we want to thank David Glodek for setting up the Dale Bennett Memorial Trophy tournament.
“It was a great success with teams from all areas, even Glasgow. It’s a bit overwhelming to think families have taken the time to be part of keeping our son Dale’s memory alive and we hope it can make the kids aware of what happens when you carry a knife. That is our aim as a family to try and make kids aware through football - the thing Dale loved.”
Tournament organiser David Glodek of Newtongrange Star Academy said: “It was a massive success.
“I would like to thank all the players, coaches and parents that attended this tournament set-up in memory of a local lad sadly taken from his family.”
