Dalkeith footballer Jack Neilson is celebrating after being named Midnight League Player of the Year – and receiving his award from former Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

The 13-year-old impressed the SFA coaches with his ability, attitude and respect and was chosen as one of just a handful of players nationwide to be invited to Hampden Park last Thursday.

As well as receiving his award from McLeish, who has also managed Motherwell, Hibernian, Rangers, Birmingham City and Aston Villa, Jack was treated to a training session in the shadow of Hampden Park before watching the national side draw 2-2 with
Poland in their European Championship qualifier.

And while Scotland couldn’t leave Hampden Park victorious, Newbattle Abbey College pupil Neilson was delighted to have got his hands on a top award.
