IT was a sporting triumph which resembled a storyline from a film.
Talented footballers Lia Tweedie (13) from Roslin, Emma Porteous (14) from Newbattle, and Simone McMahon (13) from Bonnyrigg, were among the Hibs Girls’ line-up which went on to win a UK-wide tournament - despite only having played together once before on a piece of waste ground.
The girls were drafted in for the Tesco Cup final in Birmingham, with the team beating England 1-0 in the final.
They came to the rescue after half of the original qualifying team was not allowed to play in the finals.
