This weekend finds home fixtures for both Penicuik Athletic and Arniston Rangers. Dalkeith Thistle and Bonnyrigg Rose are on their travels while, for Newtongrange Star, it’s a waiting game until next Saturday’s South League Cup final against Scottish Cup finalists Linlithgow Rose.
This Saturday Star will keep in trim with a friendly match against East of Scotland League’s Civil Service Strollers at New Victoria Park.
The North League Cup final played at Carnoustie last Friday evening saw Super League’s Lochee United surprised by North League’s Kirriemuir Thistle who won 2-1.
In the Premier League on Saturday, Penicuik Athletic host Jeanfield Swifts, who are Central League Cup finalists. Penicuik drew 2-2 with the Swifts in their Perth encounter back in September. This Saturday sees Penicuik desperate for success after their 5-3 defeat at Newburgh in the second round of the Fife and Lothians Cup at the weekend.
Penicuik were due to be in action last night (Wednesday) away to Armadale Thistle in the Premier League.
Bonnyrigg Rose swept into the third round of the Fife and Lothians Cup with another fine win in Fife, this time beating hosts Kirkcaldy 4-1. This qualifies the Rose for an away third round tie again in Fife at Oakley United.
Bonnyrigg (who are second top of the East Super League) have four remaining championship games to play, three away from home. This weekend they travel to fourth-bottom Carnoustie Panmure, the team they beat 5-3 at Bonnyrigg in February.
Consecutive Saturdays will see Dalkeith Thistle complete their away Premier League fixtures for the season with last Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Armadale Thistle followed this Saturday by trip to Dundee Violet whom Thistle beat 5-2 last month at King’s Park. This will leave Thistle their last league match of the season at home to Jeanfield. Dalkeith were also on the road earlier this week visiting Bathgate Thistle in the third round of the Fife and Lothians Cup – two league meetings between these two clubs this season saw a 2-2 draw at Bathgate and a 1-0 win for Bathgate at Dalkeith. Fourth top of the South League, Arniston Rangers have a home fixture on Saturday against Stoneyburn with whom they shared a 4-4 away draw in February. Arniston are currently on 34 points with 20 of their 28 South League games played. Last Saturday saw a battling 1-1 away draw at third-top Dunbar. Meanwhile, shock of the day was second-top Haddington Athletic’s 1-0 away win at league-toppers Fauldhouse United.
The likes of Livingston and Whitburn still chase Arniston for a promotion place with Livingston facing Harthill and Whitburn at home to Falkirk due last night (Wednesday).
