Two Beeslack High School pupils recently picked up player of the year awards for the Heart of Midlothian girls’ football team.

Defender Jenny More and midfielder Leah Boak (both 17) have been with the club since it was launched five years ago and were awarded Under-17 player of the year and players’ player of the year development awards respectively by Hearts chairman Ann Budge.

Jenny’s mum, Linda More (48) said: “We were very proud of both the girls. They have been with the club since the Hearts girls’ team started up at under-13 level.

“That’s Jenny’s first award and she was captain last season. She also scored her first goal for the club. So I was very proud of her. And both the girls are Hearts fans too, so it’s great.

“It was quite nice that they got the awards on the same night. They have known each other for a long time. They also got certificates for being with Hearts since the club started as part of its fifth anniversary.

“The girls played together briefly at Musselburgh
Windsor before they both signed for Hearts.

“Jenny really took off when she was playing for Eskmill boys team before that.

“I hope they continue to enjoy it. It’s good for them.”
