An exciting Junior football season for the now six Midlothian clubs is “on approach” with a great selection of pre-season friendlies starting this coming Saturday and into midweek next week.

Further friendly fixtures are on the cards before the official season begins early next month with Midlothian’s triple Super League clubs Bonnyrigg ,Newtongrange and Penicuik looking for a positive start as well as Premier League Arniston and Dalkeith. While for returning to the Junior game Easthouses Lily it’s all a new experience.

Easthouses will get their first taste of junior football this Saturday hosting a friendly match against Dalkeith Thistle who are boosted by the signing of ex Arniston Tadg Moriarty and Musselburgh’s Ewan Ralton as well as Willie Kidd (Whitehill ), John Robertson (Leith Athletic under 21)

goalkeeper Thomas Cordery ad ex Lily keeper John Falconer and ex Musselburgh Windsor Under 21 Kamran Tufail.

Easthouses will also be at home next Tuesday evening kick-off 7.15pm to entertain Arniston Rangers with Arnie manager Jock Landells now assisted by Craig McManus as number two and with experienced defender Guy Kerr now on the Arnie books.

A major friendly match is featured on Saturday at Penicuik Park,ko 2.30 pm where East Super League Penicuik Athletic entertain Ayrshire’s Irvine Meadow with the Cuikie now boosted by ex-Whitehill top scorer Aaron Somerville now looking forward to a goalscoring new junior career.

Changes at Penicuik have seen Michael McDermott now the new player coach replacing the departed Scott Montgomery while David White is the new assistant manager /player with Ross Montgomery back for his fourth spell at Penicuik and ex Musselburgh’s Dan Moffat also a new face at Penicuik .

Penicuik will be at home next Tuesday evening 21st July , kick-off 7.15pm to entertain Whitehill in the Cuikie’s second friendly.

The same evening will see a 7pm kick-off for the visit of Newtongrange Star to Dalkeith Thistle at King’s Park.

Major changes at East Super League’s Bonnyrigg Rose with ex boss David McGlynn now at Linlithgow Rose and new Bonnyrigg boss, ex Berwick Rangers Assistant manager, Robbie Horn now at the helm at New Dundas Park. While off to join Musselburgh Athletic are Suart Roseburgh and Kevin McLeish. With Shaun Woodburn unavailable for just now for personal reasons the new season sees newcomers for Bonnyrigg in keeper Billy Bald (ex Penicuik and Berwick) midfielder Andrew Kidd (ex Whitehill ), striker Kieran McGachie (ex Motherwell and CSS ) striker Wayne McIntosh (ex Whitehill ), defender Ewan Moyes (ex Brechin ,East Fife and Montrose ), Adam Nelson (ex Elgin, Brechin, Musselburgh and Linlithgow ), Chris Tobin (ex Brechin and CSS ) and Lewis Turner (ex Newtongrange , Berwick, and Musselburgh). Bonnyrigg will be away to Civil Service Strollers next Tuesday evening in their opening friendly game with a visit to Shettleston set for the following Saturday.

This Saturday Newtongrange Star will be at Broadwood Stadium to visit Cumbernauld.

Newtongrange following their visit next Tuesday evening (21st ) to Dalkeith look forward to a huge home game the following Saturday (25th) entertaining Scottish Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot at New Victoria Park which sees a 2pm kick-off. While top scorer Sean Jamieson has moved on from the Star to join Musselburgh,new faces at Nitten include defender Stephen Tulloch (ex Berwick) and Kevin Hamilton (Leith Athletic ).
