Penicuik were hoping to achieve a league double over the Rose, and in the opening stages of the game they were by far the better side.

Grant Killin had a great chance to score in the 19th minute when he was unmarked at the back post, but he failed to hit the target when Ryan Gay’s inch-perfect cross found him.

Then, following a corner to Penicuik, Steven Bunyan saw his header crash back off the bar before Killin’s flick was brilliantly tipped away by Rose goalkeeper Christie.

Next, Linlithgow broke quickly from defence and Roddy Mclennan beat Jordan Lister to the ball and rounded Penicuik ’keeper Bejaoui to score the opener.

Linlithgow doubled their lead in the 38th minute when a long clearance by Christie was missed by Cunnison. The ball was turned inside by
Colin Strickland to Ruari Mclennan who resisted tackles by McCulloch, White and McDermott to slot the ball past Bejaoui.
