The 2013 Coach of the Year, Yvonne Anderson is urging local people to get voting in this year’s Midlothian Sports Awards.

The chairman of Lothian Special Olympics, Yvonne said being among the winners at last year’s event, which celebrates Midlothian’s sporting heroes, was “unbelievable”.

She said: “It was such an honour and it made me feel very humble. I don’t see the award as something that was just for me, but is recognition for all of the volunteer coaches, who give up so much of their time and work tirelessly to help our athletes succeed.

“Knowing how much it meant to me to win an award last year, please get voting for your favourite sports person for 2014. It’s wonderful to know that people recognise and value what you do. It really makes a difference.”

Send your nominations by Friday, August 8 to Tommy Goldie, Midlothian Council, Dundas Buildings, 62 A Polton Street, Bonnyrigg, EH19 3YD. You can also email tommy.goldie@midlothian.gov.uk. This year’s awards bash is due to take place at the Lasswade Centre on a date to be confirmed in the autumn.
