Lasswade set for annual tournament

Lasswade Rugby Club begin their pre season build-up for the new 2012-13 Championship League in earnest with their popular annual tournament on Saturday at Hawthornden.

Cumbernauld, Glenrothes, Haddington, Livingston, Portobello, Preston Lodge and Royal High are all sending teams to compete in two round-robin groups followed by playoffs for the final placings.

The first ties kick-off at 1.30pm, with the grand final normally starting about 5.30pm. Gavin Brown continues as captain this year, as does Dave Cockburn as head coach with Richard Borthwick as vice-captain.

The host team will be keen to retain possession of the trophy for a second year running. As well as the promise of some exciting rugby there will be a bouncy castle for the children, food and refreshments on sale including a barbecue, and cake and candy and tombola stalls. Admission is £5 for adults and free for children.To complete the day, there’s a free disco and karaoke in the clubhouse from 7.30pm. President Ian Barr appreciates the support given to the club over the past few seasons and will ensure everyone will be made very welcome this Saturday and hopes the weather will be kind.

Lasswade have also arranged friendlies against Biggar at home on August 11 and Currie 2XV at Balerno on August 18. The first full league match is Perthshire at home on August 25. All kick-off at 3pm.
