ATHLETICS: Gold medalist Steve Frew inspires local youngsters

Commonwealth gold medal-winning gymnast Steve Frew has been inspiring Midlothian youngsters to reach their sporting potential.

Frew (36), visited Newbattle High School to mentor a group of athletic pupils and lead a programme of activities, including a classroom session discussing stories and experiences with him referring to his own inspiring struggle through sport.

He also led an hour session of physical activities where the pupils enjoyed some friendly competition.

As part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme, Steve Frew is visiting a number of schools around the country to motivate young people of all levels of ability to get into sport.

In July 2002, at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, he won the first gymnastics gold medal for Scotland in the history of the competition, winning gold in the men's rings event.
