FOOTBALL: Hundreds join UEFA fun day at Poltonhall
Hundreds of local school children got together to help Scotland celebrate UEFA Grassroots Day last Wednesday.
Football events were organised across the country, with help and support from professional players and managers.
Some 300 boys and girls from local primary schools gathered at Poltonhall Recreation Ground, for a McDonald's Football Festival.
Hibernian's Ian Murray and Paul Hanlon, Heart of Midlothian's Ian Black and Jason Thomson, and Liam Buchanan of Partick Thistle were there to offer encouragement to the young players.
Scottish FA South East Regional Manager, Mark Munro said: "We're delighted to be taking part in the UEFA Grassroots Day celebrations. So much hard work goes into grassroots football across our region, and the country. This is a great chance for the young players to get involved in a Europe-wide event, and for us to showcase some of our on-going programmes."
Last Wednesday was the first ever UEFA Grassroots Day — part of the build-up to the Champions League Final in Madrid on Saturday when Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich 2-0.
All 53 UEFA member associations took part in the day, which celebrated the work going on at grassroots level across the continent.
The morning session featured Ian Murray and Paul Hanlon of Hibs while, in the afternoon, Hearts' Ian Black and Jason Thomson were joined by Liam Buchanan of Partick Thistle.
