A former chairman of Melville Housing Association has described his shock and delight at taking part in the Queen’s Baton relay.

Brian Christie, who lives in Edgehead, was chosen to take part for his volunteering work both with Melville and also in the local community. He was a founding member of Melville Housing and served as chairman for five years.

“Being chosen to carry the baton was a real shock,” said Brian.

“I felt privileged and deeply honoured to take part. I’ve lived all my life in Midlothian and am particularly proud of my time as chairman of Melville Housing.

“The last ten years or so have been a real period of growth for the organisation and I’d like to think the benefits this has brought to local people played a part in the decision.

“Really, this is recognition for Melville as a whole rather than for me personally, but I’m extremely proud to have taken part nonetheless.”
