A sports coach from Newtongrange picked up a national award at the weekend for her services to an East Lothian gymnastics club.

Margaret Kerr (66), coach at Saltire Team Gymnastics in Tranent, was recognised in the sportscotland Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering Awards, winning the Development Coach of the Year Award.

A delighted Margaret said: “I am totally humbled to have won this award because I just do what I do because I enjoy it and if it benefits and encourages young people to stay in the sport then that’s what I want.

“I see my job as mentoring people into the sport and helping them to go on and get as much pleasure from the sport as I have.”

Margaret received a commemorative trophy, certificate and a cheque for £300 to recognise her achievements as a coach.
