Newbattle staff and pupils warmly welcomed judo champ Stephanie Inglis to the high school recently.

Newbattle’s head of PE Bob Foley said: “Steph was great with the kids and worked with a S3 group on basic moves in judo and building confidence towards contact and mat work.

“The pupils loved the chance to try something new and afterwards Steph did a talk on her recent return from Argentina and her hope that she will be named for the Glasgow 2014 team in May.

“She was asked about her training at Ratho five days per week and about how she funds herself. But mostly she was asked about her diet.

“It was a great session then she had tea with the PE staff and then a Q&A session with S5/6 sport and recreation on what it means to be a full time athlete.”
