Lasswade RFC’s youngsters welcomed a strong touring Birkdale School side from Sheffield last week with games arranged for P6 and P7 age levels.

Lasswade P6’s enjoyed a sun bathed afternoon off school and on the astro turf. With 54 children from Bonnyrigg Primary School along to support the home side.

With such a disappointing showing against the auld enemy in the Six Nations the coaches were not expecting to register a result against a strong touring Birkdale School side.

Recent tackling performances in training and matches did not bode well when facing a team that would be well drilled and full of strong runners.

But the hosts were victorious, 11-3, playing as a team and tackled as a group like never before.

Lasswade’s P7 side, although beaten by their English counterparts, played their part in an entertaining match.

With Lasswade repeatedly drawn into the middle of the field, Birkdale were able to spread the ball wide and picked up several unanswered tries, ultimately coming away as 8-4 winners.
