Midlothian will welcome the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton on June 16 with events to be held across the county.

This comes just two years after the Olympic Torch captured the local imagination.

Celebrations are due to kick-off at Hillend Ski Centre with a Samba band sending the baton on its way around the county, travelling through most towns in Midlothian before heading to Dalkeith Country Park.

There, performers will showcase dance pieces inspired by the Games and the Midlothian-nominated Commonwealth countries of the Seychelles and Pakistan.

Later on in the day, there will be an outdoor Commonwealth Ceilidh event as part of the Get Scotland Dancing programme.

The day will end with a spectacular bang when Midlothian says farewell to the baton – with choirs singing specially commissioned songs to end the event and the baton’s journey thought the county.
