Medal haul for Lasswade athletes
Lasswade Athletic Club - Rachel and Gareth
athletics: Several athletes from Lasswade Athletics Club were competing for their schools at the Scottish Athletics Championships at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, recently, with two being crowned Scottish Schools’ Champions.
Top performers on the day were 15-year-olds Ellen Kristoffersen (Dalkeith High) and Rachel Robertson (Newbattle High), who although still in fourth year, defeated many 5th and 6th year pupils to claim their titles. Ellen won gold in the over 16 girls’ high jump, with Rachel winning the over 16 girls’ long jump.
Gareth Fleming, also a fourth-year pupil at Newbattle, collected a silver medal double in the under 16 boys’ pole vault and long jump.
Ellen also came fourth in the over 16 girls’ long jump (5.15m – indoor PB), Gareth finished sixth in the under 16 boys’ hurdles final while Rachel was the only 4th year girl to qualify for a tough over 16 girls’ 200m final where she finished fifth. Rachel and Gareth are pictured above.
