MOTOR RACING: Noble wins first race

There was plenty to keep the fans entertained at the Cowdenbeath Racewall last Saturday night with shunts, cars riding the wall and some close finishes.

There were 19 Formula II drivers at the track including Ally Noble (Newtongrange).

The first race of the evening was a qualifying round for the white/yellow series and whilst Noble won from Holly Glen and Ewan Ewart, Gregor Turner had been well clear only to have to coast out of the race when his throttle cable broke. N

oble was sixth in the final.

Scott Chisolm (Dunbar) took part in the saloons. Robin Copland won the white yellow challenge series qualifying round leading home Barry Russell, Willie Mitchell and Chisholm.

There was a good turnout of prostox drivers including Tam and Keith Melrose (Mayfield), Paul McNulty Snr (Gorebridge), Dougie Kidd (Dalkeith), Gary Thomson (Gorebridge) and Tam Ross (Danderhall).

The opening heat was for white/yellow drivers and it was Ryan Johnston who won from Alan Kirby and Grant Nicholls.

Heat two saw the blue and red grade drivers take to the track where Alex Bain took the chequer and he led home Greg Kirby and Grant Weston with T Melrose in ninth place.

The consolation race ended with Tam Page winning from Ross, Patrick Calderwood and McNulty Snr..

There was plenty of action in the final and in the end it was McNulty Snr who was able to make the break from the pack before going on to win from Ally McDonald and John Mason with Ross in seventh place.

In the Allcomers race Ross picked up his first win of the night crossing the line clear of Ian Donaldson Jnr and Gordon Brown. Tam Melrose was sixth and Kidd ninth.
