Two pupils from Newbattle High School are celebrating after being chosen to participate in the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony.

Darren McCraw and Rachel Robertson will participate in the celebrations at the opening ceremony on July 23 at Celtic Park in Glasgow.

They will have the very special job of acting as second team hosts. Amongst the list of very important jobs, they’ll be announcing the Seychelles and Pakistan teams’ arrival to the stadium. Those are the two Commonwealth countries Midlothian Council is supporting during Glasgow 2014.

Speaking about their star turn, Rachel (17), said: It’s a really good opportunity for us and we’re really looking forward to it. Just being there and being part of it will be really special.”

Darren (also 17), added: “It’s going to be a great experience, just seeing all the athletes in action will be fantastic.”

As part of the selection process, both pupils were asked to record a personal video on why they should be selected, after they were nominated by their PE teacher, Andrew Wilson.
