Newbattle High School pupil Kevin Waugh recently scored for Hibs in the East of Scotland (EOS) League despite not turning 16 until next April.
Playing in a team that has included internationalists Kevin Thomson and James McPake in recent weeks, Kevin scored on his debut for the club’s EOS side which features the under 20s side and first-team players returning from injury.
One of four Hibs under 17s that started the recent EOS 3-3 draw against Leith Athletic, the midfielder played the full 90 minutes, capping his performance with a goal.
The Scotland under 16s international said: “It was brilliant. I wasn’t expecting to play let alone start the game. And then I scored too, I can’t describe how it felt.
“James McDonough [manager] told me I was in the squad on the Friday and it wasn’t until I got there for the match I found out I was starting.
“That was the first time I have been involved in the 20s. I thought I was going to struggle but as the game went on I started to get on the ball more and grew in confidence.”
