Penicuik Athletic’s manager hailed the “team effort” at the club after watching his side clinch the title with victory over their nearest rivals.
Penicuik knew they had two bites at securing the Premier League crown last week. But after losing at home to Jeanfield Swifts on Wednesday they got over the line with a 2-1 home win over Fauldhouse United on Saturday.
Manager Craig Meikle praised everyone at the club, including the supporters: “There was no way we would fall at the final hurdle, I didn’t doubt it for a second.
The boys did brilliantly again on Saturday. I was hoping for a big reaction after the midweek game and that’s what I got.
“I think winning the league at home in front of your own fans against your nearest rivals is the way to do it.
“And I have to thank the fans. We had a cracking crowd on Saturday, 300-plus. They gave us good vocal support, as they have done all season.
“It has been a real team effort, not just the fans and the players, but the committee as well.
“They have done well to raise funds which enabled me to add players for this season.”
