Berwick Rangers 1 Whitehill Welfare 2
City Cup Final
(Tuesday, April 15)
Whitehill Welfare won their second piece of silverware for this season with a 2-1 win over Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park recently to clinch the City Cup.
This comes just weeks after they won the Image Printers Cup.
An excellent second half performance saw Whitehill come from a goal down to secure this trophy.
It was a difficult first half and Welfare were perhaps fortunate to only trail 1-0 at the break to Kenny O’Briens excellent strike on 14 minutes, with Michael Dunlop’s header coming back off the bar seven minutes later.
There was hope though as Whitehill came into the game and Andrew Kidd beat the offside trap to equalise on 62 minutes before man of the match Wayne Sproule beat two men down the left and blasted a right foot shot past Andrews in the home goal to put the Rosewell men in front.
Welfare survived a late onslaught from Berwick but in the end it could have been more, as Sproule did all the hard work before shooting wide, and McIntosh missed with only Andrews to beat.
Well done to Mickey Lawson, Mark Adams, Scott Cantley, Dougie Hewat and the players.
