Surprise, surprise for Newbattle’s Bob

A MIDLOTHIAN teacher was left stunned when his school department scooped another national award.
Bob Foley, head of PE at Newbattle Community High School, had travelled to Shropshire last week to deliver a workshop at the Youth Sport Trust’s Conference 2012 – or so he thought.
He was looking forward to the first day’s awards ceremony at Telford International Centre, attended by 750 PE teachers from English schools.
He said: “When Newbattle came up on all the huge screens, I turned to the person next to me and said: ‘Isn’t that incredible. A school with the same name as ours.’
“This lady said: ‘Listen, stupid. That’s your school!’ I was mortified.
“But I suppose when I got moved from table 22 to table one, I should have known something was going on.”
