TABLE TENNIS: Newbattle schoolboy batting for Scotland

A table tennis player from Newtongrange is preparing to represent Scotland for the first time.

Penicuik Table Tennis Club member Alexander Duff (11) will travel to Guernsey next month to play in the British Primary Schools Championships.

The former Newtongrange Primary School pupil, who now attends Newbattle High School, qualifies for the primary competition because he is still under 12 years old.

Head of PE at Newbattle High School, Bob Foley said: "Alexander is a quiet, hard working pupil at Newbattle High who is an outstanding table tennis player for his age.

"He is already able to beat adults easily and we in PE department wish him great success in Guernsey in his first cap for Scotland."

Alexander won the Scotland under 13 National Assessment in Perth on February 20 and is currently ranked third in Table Tennis Scotland's Minor (under 13) section.
