Valentino Volante (17) is set to go full-time as a judo athlete when he leaves school this summer, after dominating the sport at junior level.
In the past month alone, the Eskbank teenager has won gold at the Scottish, Irish and English opens as well as bringing back gold from the European Cup in Portugal.
Now he hopes to chase his dream of being the first Briton to win a judo Olympic gold.
His father, Valentino Volante Snr believes his son can go far in the sport: “I’m extremely proud to see him climb the ladder and to watch him achieve at every new hurdle put in front of him.
“I think he has the attributes to achieve his very high goals and ambitions which is ultimately on an Olympic level.”
