A place in the East of Scotland Junior Cup final was up for grabs on Tuesday night at New Victoria Park and Newtongrange did not disappoint their home fans, writes Gary Linton.

It was a steady start to the game with both teams having a couple of shots in the opening 20 minutes, but it was not until the 22nd minute when an in swinging ball from Stuart Roseburgh was met at the front post by oncoming Grant Meaney who scored what proved to be the winning goal, and the one that in the end sent Newtongrange Star in to the final.

The action never stopped there though as Penicuik tried to get back in to it an nearly did shortly after the break when a good ball in to the box was struck at a good pace but unfortunately right at the oppositions goalie. Newtongrange had a clear cut chance to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute but it was chipped over the bar after a one on one chance with the Penicuik goalie.

When the game was coming to an end and Penicuik trying to get back in to the tie. they where handed a boost when Gavin Duncan sent off Alan Brown off Newtongrange Star. But the tables were soon levelled in the 89th minute when Gavin Duncan was the centre of attention again this time sending off Penicuik’s Craig Miller.

But in the end, it will be Newtongrange Star who will meet Dundee North End in the final on Saturday.
