Hockey star Aileen Davis from Bonnyrigg is hoping a passionate home crowd at Glasgow Green will cheer her and her teammates onto success.
Aileen (26), who now lives and works in Bath as a management consultant, has 52 Scotland caps to her name.
The Midlothian star can’t wait for her team take to the field in Glasgow, with Scotland’s encounter with the auld enemy on July 30 particularly on her mind.
She said: “I’m definitely looking forward to Glasgow, it’s really exciting. It’s the first Commonwealth Games for me.
“It’s just such an exciting time, we had a look at the village the other week and we had a team camp in Stirling, so it’s all a bit surreal just now.
“They were putting the finishing touches on everything at the village but it’s really looking good.
“We will be in town houses all together, I think there is going to be games rooms for relaxation etc, it will be brilliant.
“We had a tournament in April at Glasgow Green where the hockey will take place at the Games, and the crowds were just few hundred but we could barely hear each other. So to have 5,000 backing us will be great.
“Hopefully it will effectively be a 12th man for us.
“Our target is to get to the semi-finals, for us every match is winnable. It all just depends on what happens on the day. We just have to play our game and focus on ourselves, and hopefully the results will take care of themselves.
“We have England in our group, so that will a big game. We know what it’s like when Scotland play England, it’s a big match and everyone is up for it. We’re just excited about playing them.
“I think it was one of the first matches that sold out, so there will be a real extra buzz to that game.”
