MIDLOTHIAN’S two remaining Emirates Scottish Junior Cup contestants – Bonnyrigg Rose and Arniston Rangers – take up the challenge of fourth round ties this Saturday, with the Rose welcoming Ayrshire District League toppers Maybole to New Dundas Park, while Arniston travel to Ayrshire to take on West Super League Premier Division’s Largs Thistle.
The other three Midlothian junior clubs are on their travels, with Penicuik Athletic away to Dundee East Craigie and Dalkeith Thistle away to Kirriemuir Thistle, both in the second round of the prestigious East of Scotland Cup.
Penicuik beat hosts Harthill 5-1 in the first round, and Dalkeith beat Forfar Albion 4-1, while Thistle’s opponents Kirrie beat Broxburn 1-0 in their first-round tie.
Meanwhile, Newtongrange Star will be away to bottom of the Premier League Dundee Downfield on league business, looking to complete a league double over their Tayside rivals who Star beat 3-0 at New Victoria Park in August.
Unfortunately, Bonnyrigg’s ideal pre-cup preparation match last Saturday – and a chance to go top of the Super League – was scuppered by the weather at St Andrews United.
