Penicuik footballer Lia Tweedie won her first Scottish cap competing in the 2012 Bob Docherty Tournament in Dublin.

The Scotland U-15 girls’ squad finished third in the tournament, which also welcomed national teams from Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Scotland’s first game of the round robin competition was against a formidable Northern Ireland, which boasted 11 girls from last year’s tournament winning side.

The assured Irish side started confidently and opened the scoring after three minutes. Undaunted, the Scot’s response was immediate and the visitors equalised.

With only eight minutes ahead, Scotland found themselves ahead but the Irish came back and equalised shortly before half time (2-2).

Beeslack Community High School pupil Lia and team mate Niamh Johnstone (St Ambrose High) came on for the second half to win their first SSFA international caps.
