TWO prominent Midlothian sportspeople are preparing to make their contributions to the Paralympic Games.

As Sean Fraser, from Loanhead, gears up to swim for Team GB, sports coach Lynne Sturgeon will be part of a celebration to welcome the Paralympic Torch Relay to Edinburgh.

Sean (22), who won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke (S8) event at Beijing in 2008, is hoping for a personal best and, potentially, a podium place.

He said: “The training with Mick Massey and the high-performance team in Manchester has gone really, really well and some of my swims have been fantastic.

“Usually I’m heading out of the country for competition and that’s exciting, but this feels different and I’m just trying to keep as calm as possible. This is the biggest competition of my career and, with a home crowd, it’s going to be immense.”
