Lasswade Athletics Club sprinter Greg Louden retained his 200 metres national title on Sunday after a season dogged by injury.

Louden (22), from Dalkeith, won gold at the Scottish Seniors Championships in Aberdeen with a time of 21.97.

But speaking to the Advertiser he said: “It was more of a relief than anything else, because it’s not been a great year due to injury. It’s been hell.

“So to be able to turn out and retain the title was good. It wasn’t the fastest of times but I’m happy it was under 22 seconds.

“I have not been able to race for about five months. I had a nerve injury in my hamstring, coming from tightness in my lower back. It’s not allowed me to push myself 100 per cent so it’s been difficult to compete.

“It’s took a while to get rid of this injury. It would have been a good year had I not picked it up, so hopefully next year will be a good one for me.”
