A teenager from Danderhall has enjoyed judo success recently, winning national titles in his age group and taking on fighters four years his senior.
Scott Thomson (15) took home the gold medal at the British Championships at under 55kg in Cadet age category (Under 17’s) on December 7.
He followed that up on Saturday with a bronze medal at the British Junior Championships (under 20’s). This success brought with it inclusion in the British Junior Judo Squad - at just 15 Scott was the youngest competitor in his weight category.
His mother Tracy reflected on his success so far and paid tribute to Scott’s club.
She said: “He has been British champ at a younger age but this is probably his best achievement so far.
“Hopefully he will have a promising future if he sticks at it.
“He started in the sport when he was just seven, obviously it was just recreational to start with.
“It’s only been the last two or three years that he has been involved with things like the Scottish Development squad.
“It’s credit to Danderhall Judo Club where he trains that he has done so well. In particular his coaches Davie Reilly and Colin Woods.
“Without them it wouldn’t have happened. And there are others at the club doing well too.”
