Lasswade encounter proves to be a nail-biting affair

Perthshire earned their place in National League 3 as last season’s convincing Champions of Caledonia Region bouncing straight back from relegation the
year before.

In near perfect playing conditions, both sides threw themselves into the conflict and it soon became obvious that this was going to be a hard fought encounter. While Lasswade had the slight edge in the tight scrum and mauls, Perthshire’s rucking and counter-rucking was the more effective of the two.

The first quarter hour was fought out between the 22s. It took an individual break by Gladstone from a scrum on the visitor’s 22 to break the deadlock. Grounding under the posts, the scrum half added the two points himself.

Perthshire were not going to be subdued and having been held up over the line, their standoff, Whitelaw, was able to dummy and sidestep his way from the five metre scrum to the posts for Salter to even up the score to 7-7 which carried through the remaining 15 minutes of the first half.
